Slow Somatic Yoga

Yoga doesn't have to be a workout.

It doesn't have to be acrobatics, either.

There is another way to practice.

My Zoom classes are slow, gentle and mindful, with an emphasis on awareness rather than performance.

You'll move your body, but the goal isn't to push harder, burn calories or achieve a perfect pose.

The invitation is to slow down enough to notice.

How does this feel?
What does my body need today?
What happens if I try it this way instead?

And doing less seems to allow us to experience more.

**More ease in your body.

More quiet in your mind.
More connection with yourself.**

What happens in a class?

We move slowly.

We explore familiar movements in sometimes unfamiliar ways.

We pay attention to breath, sensation and how things feel rather than how they look.

Sometimes we laugh because something that looks incredibly simple turns out to be surprisingly complicated.

Sometimes we become very still.

Sometimes you may discover that a small movement creates a big shift.

And there is no expectation that your body should look or move like anyone else's.

This is movement with awareness, not performance.

You don't need to be flexible.

You don't need previous yoga experience.

You don't need to be fit.

You simply need to be willing to notice, explore and be curious about what is possible for you today.

This might be your kind of yoga if...

  • Fitness-style yoga doesn't appeal to you.

  • You want to move without pushing yourself.

  • Your body has changed and you want to learn how to work with it.

  • You want the physical benefits of movement along with greater calm and awareness.

  • You spend a lot of time "in your head" and would like to reconnect with your body.

  • You appreciate having choices and modifications rather than being told there is one right way.

  • You'd like to leave class feeling calmer, more connected and more at ease.

And if you're looking for a hard workout...

This probably isn't that class.

And that's intentional.

There is value in doing less.

In a world that continually asks us to do more, improve more and keep up, perhaps an hour spent slowing down, listening and caring for yourself is exactly what your body and mind need.

Come as you are.

No competition.
No striving.
No performing.

Check in. Explore what's possible.

And see how you feel.
